Corporate Dinner: Learning, Stressing Out & Nerves

Posted on 13-08-2014 | Tags: ,

Omg guys. Corporate Dinner is TODAY. I’m still up at freaking 3am because I was preparing 100 name tags, like 50 place cards, finishing the Corporate Dinner booklet and overall handling various issues that have reallyyy tested me.  Finding myself frustrated when people ask me to do more things because they don’t seem to realise how much I am actually doing atm?!  I haven’t even had time to breathe ide.  If I wasn’t working on the booklet or the table seating arrangement (which was EXTREMELY frustrating, by the way), I was working on my presentation for Friday with my group member Jack, or dealing with emails or last minute issues.

Exhausting.  I am really exhausted.

Like legit.  The table seating arrangements nearly made me cry because they’re so annoying.  People have dietary requirements, people don’t give us those dietary requirements until it’s already sent in, people back out last minute or request seating changes or whatever.  There is nothing more annoying in this world, I swear.  I spent like a week doing this and then a rep backs out and my perfect preference arrangement is ruined.  Oh well, luckily Bryan saved the day and contacted his cousin who found us a replacement yay!

So, besides that drama, I decided since I’m insane, to take on making the Corporate Dinner Booklet.  It was only supposed to be a casual thing, nothing too fancy… but somehow I got really into making it so I’m excited to print it out because, as I keep telling people, it’s my baby.  I’m proud of it!  As some of you may know, I’ve always wanted to like publish my own like… magazine thing because I find designing them really fun.  I’ve always been a bit of a noob at InDesign, so I thought it would be a good opportunity to try to learn how to use the program because I never understood why it was so popular in like, the magazine/book industry.  I wondered what made it different from say, Photoshop or Illustrator.  WELL GUYS I FINALLY KNOW AFTER 8 YEARS OF DESIGNING LOL.

I’m so glad that I’ve learnt something so useful from this.  Lemme explain to you what makes InDesign different to PS and Illustrator.
As you probs know, InDesign lets you make booklets with multiple pages.  So what, right?

Well InDesign has this thing called ‘Master Pages’ which is basically a page where you can make a template to ensure consistency – NTS: learn how to make this template show up above other objects.

Anyway, that isn’t even the best part about it.  InDesign is the best, because you can put a bunch of info in an excel spreadsheet and do a thing called ‘Data Merge’ to import all that info into the areas you specify!  And it can even put in a whole folder of images for you, automatically.  What even.  2 years ago I was making name tags one by one.  SO THIS IS HOW THEY PRINT INDIVIDUAL TICKET NUMBERS?!  So many revelations just from making this booklet.

Anyway yeah I can’t sleep, even though I’m exhausted.  At least I had dinner with Bryan today.  I even drove him home! (on my Ls with my wonderful mum) … I think that was the first time I have driven so far at night time.  We didn’t die at least hahahah.

Oh also I have lost my dress which I’m meant to wear to CD, FML.  I don’t know what to do… I might just go to Portmans and buy a dress in the morning, sigh.  Why am I such a messy person?  Can’t even find it even though I dug through like all my clothes.  More things to frustrate me in this time of stress.  I definitely learnt how to deal with external problems though… those things that you have no control over.  Sometimes it’s better to just… not get ahead of yourself.  Don’t try to be super organised and a perfectionist because in the end, everything gets changed last minute anyway.  It’s better to just relax and not have to deal with everything.

One of the most exhausting weeks.

Posted on 10-08-2014

Hello everyone, long time no see.
I have been a combination of lazy and busy over the past month.  I warn you, this is going to be a wordy post.

During the holidays, I don’t even know what I did. 90% of my time was spent reading shoujo mangas and now I have gotten through probably above 60 over the past few weeks LOL.

This week has been the most hectic though. Literally all my university time has been dedicated to my club, CCA. This is probably going to bore you guys but people often ask me what I do as VP and I struggle to respond… because it’s a bit of everything. Usually it’s very manageable but recently I’ve been stressing out so much because our major event is coming up and many of our exec committee are either sick or doing deferred exams!  Anyway, I shall list out my accomplishments for the past 2 weeks because it makes me feel a bit better about how exhausted I am because it’s worth it since I actually did stuff! LOL.  This is more a reminder to myself that this stress I’m feeling right now is a result of me doing something tangible.

Work & Corporate Events:
So, the company I’m working for is soon to release their new product, so I had a lot of work to do making promotional material.  Also, we are entering an export award thing so I have been not only working on that in person at the office, but finishing it off at home.  It’s a REALLY long process – it’s like writing an entire report or something.  Anyway, my boss wrote most of the stuff so I only really had to proof-read, edit and submit it.

The other day I had a corporate event with a firm, where we learned about the Australian economy, had an office tour and participated in a Networking Session with their reps and also other students.  I’m proud of myself because I took a bit of initiative and also actually made friends, which is great because I’m usually a very shy person LOL.

Emails:
Usually, I don’t deal with emails but I’ve been noticing people haven’t been replying to enquiries so I’ve been answering them.  I used to be a bit nervous about sending emails because I tend to make a lot of mistakes, but recently I have gotten faster at writing them and (seemingly) more accurate, yay.

Table Sitting & Ticket Selling:
For a few days in weeks 1 & 2, I have been spending a few hours helping out at the ticket selling table, most days that I went I was setting up the table from the start which means going down to the lockers, carrying bags and setting up the banner.  I also ran up and down to CNS and back to print flyers, posters and stuff, cut up more tickets and went with Kenneth to Officeworks to print more things.  Kenneth and I also put up posters during the holidays (although they seemed to be gone by the time we got back lols).

There were some issues with ticket selling, since during the BBQ someone didn’t put the purchaser’s info into the spreadsheet.  So I had to like, go collect the receipt book from CNS (which I have never done before), then search for the missing people and also Facebook stalk and email them to find their info.

The membership database had heaps of problems too, which is now solved thank gosh.  But anyway, a lot of the time at the event itself, the database wasn’t working which put me in a panic so I went to CNS to solve it, only to have them not able to fix the problem so we had to come up with some last minute solutions.  Luckily, there are some really great people in the Committee who helped out with gathering peoples details and putting it into the database once the issues were resolved like ages after.

Designing Stuff:
I modified some of the designs Sophia made for CCA’s dinner, such as the cover photo and also some images for emails.  Because I’m crazy, I made a 5-image Facebook campaign called ‘5 Things that Makes CCA’s Corporate Dinner Different“.  Also, I am graphics designer for KIMBAP so I had to design poster, cover pic and like two promotional images for that.

Booking rooms, tables & meetings:
Firstly, Kenneth and I had a meeting with a firm, which wasn’t too bad, although whenever a firm is involved I freak out a little inside with nervousness.  But it went well.

So we were going to run a Networking Workshop.  I had to book a room for it, and also Kenneth and I had a meeting with the people who would be helping us run the event.  We confirmed a date with them and everything, only to have them tell us last minute that they couldn’t do that day anymore and we’d have to move it to Wednesday.

It’s always a pain to deal with venue booking, especially when the date has just changed so I was calling them up and emailing them and they just wouldn’t confirm!  Which totally messed up the marketing schedule and just overall, stressed me out.  Thank gosh they finally confirmed in the end and everything went smoothly  I even gave the ‘ending’ speech, and since I hate public speaking (ESPECIALLY WHEN I HAVEN’T PREPARED OMONA), I am proud of myself for giving the speech pretty well and shaking the lady’s hand and all that shizz.  LOL.  Slowly improving myself.

KIMBAP O’Week:
I came by KIMBAP’s O-Week Stall once or twice… I can’t remember.  But I didn’t do very much there lol.  Still, travelled to Caulfield for that so it’s enough to go on this list.

KIMBAP Cocktail Night:
I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go, because I’ve had so much stuff on AND I also hate clubbing and stuff… made slightly less appealing by the fact both Bryan and Calene weren’t able to attend.  But in the end, to support them I decided to go anyway, since they all worked really hard on the event and might have needed some help.  It was good to get out a little, I had a delicious dinner at the Merrywell with Mikey and Nelson, yay.  Loaded fries are my new fave things.  After that, we walked from Crown to Eve Bar in my killer heels LOL.  But it was okay since I felt fat after eating so much at Merrywell and the walk did me good.

Helped out at the registration table until it closed and then went downstairs to relax with everyone else.  I’m really antisocial in ‘social’ events… especially without Bryan there LOL.  Like I can sort of deal with professional events, but I am the most awkward person in the world when it comes to social events because… I don’t know.  I’m too uptight or something?! LMAO.  Too shy?  Whatever, the point is that I fail at socialising and don’t know how to have conversations with people.

Anyway, I had half a Raspberry Daquiri and turned completely red.  It was a similar feeling to Law Camp, could feel my throat closing up a bit and my heart beating insanely fast.  This time I didn’t throw up though!  But I got pretty chatty… I think I just get really chatty and then I feel sleepy so it’s not much fun tbh.  But overall the night wasn’t bad, the committee did well

Corporate Dinner:
My most recent source of stress is planning for the Corporate Dinner.  Marketing is all on track and tickets have sold out, but firms are STILL being confirmed and we also need to confirm numbers with the venue on the same day that we’re calling up firms.  It’s insane.  Yesterday I spent the entire day working on the table rotation thing, and today I spent a few hours with Bianca on it as well.  Now it should be OKAY but I was freaking out so much yesterday because I was exhausted, stressed out and yeah.

I’ve already sacrificed so much uni for this dinner LOL.  I don’t know how last years VP, Michelle, survived this but it’s insane.  Friday, no one was able to help with setting up table sitting so I had to do it by myself (until, luckily, Mikey was free and helped me out, even though he isn’t even part of the club LOL).

Anyway, I was pretty peeved at that because I also have a group presentation next week, the DAY AFTER Corporate Dinner and during the time where I had to set up table sitting, I could have been working on it with my group member who was free all day!  Sadness.  Now I’m going to meet with him early tomorrow to work on it.

University:
Had such a drama on Thursday because my tutorial was in the most random building in the Science/Engineering area, where they are building something and everything is blocked off.  I got lost for a good 15 minutes, went into the wrong lecture room and came to class like 20 mins late LOLOL.  But I wasn’t the latest person there so… yeah it’s okay.

I’ve been skipping all my law lectures.  Cries.  I managed somehow to catch up to two yesterday, but I’m still two behind!  Going to try to watch another tonight and again tomorrow.

OKAYYY THATS ALL FOR MY UPDATE.
I am dying but y’know being able to talk out all my stuff makes me feel better.

Love you blog.
Miss you, youtube.  I will be back very soon.

Food Adventures!

Posted on 22-12-2013 | Tags: , , ,

So I cbs another camping post for now.. I guess I’ll talk about the food I’ve had recently! No watermarks, cause I’m lazy and forgot to put one on LOL.

Polish Food with my Aunty, Uncle and Brother for his birthday! I’ve never had it before, so it was really interesting and delicious hehe. Ever since I watched Simon and Martina from EYK go to Poland, I’ve wanted to try Pierogi so bad. But my expectations of it were perhaps too high. They were nice, but not amazing. I loved all the potato dishes and the beef roll thingies though!

My fave dish overall was the potato pancakes- S…something. They were sooo good. But potato dishes all tend to look pretty plain so no pics.

The potato cakes were so weird, in a good way. It was sort of like glutinous rice, but potato version. Then there’s beef inside (since we chose beef haha). Really nice! I thought it was just like, mashed potato but it was a unique texture and delicious.

Not pictured- Polish Dumplings (Pierogi), Polish Potato Cakes and potato pancakes. Cannot remember the real names for most of these.

Bigos – Official Dish of Poland

The dessert- Polish Jam Donuts, were really tasty. They were similar to Krispy Kremes but somewhat lighter and less sweet- the jam was a tiny bit sour which made it really nice~
There was also poppyseed cake, which wasn’t that good… I’m not a fan of poppyseeds.

Anyway it was a real culinary treat for me on Saturday because not only did I have Polish food, but I even had French for dinner, for Bryan and my monthversary. He actually pointed out to me at dinner that it was the first time we have had a dinner date! Before he got his license, it was very difficult for us to have dinner together because he’d have to go home via public transport which I thought would be unsafe since he would be alone and the area he lives can be somewhat dangerous. Anyway, he has eaten dinner with me at my house, at his house and with our friends before but this is the first “dinner date” at a restaurant. I didn’t realise at all actually.

It was tasty, as expected. I love french onion soup. Perhaps we should have gotten escargot but I’ve had it before and I wasn’t too much in the mood for it, and neither was he. So we ended up having the soup, mains– eye fillet steaks with bacon and wine sauce, and for me “Canard aux Noix”: a duck dish with orange sauce and almond crisp.

Must admit, I liked his dish a lot more than my own. Last time I went to a French restaurant and had Duck L’Orange, it was delicious. But this dish was a bit weird… It was okay. I liked his steak a lot. So nicely cooked and tender and yummy.

Dessert though. French desserts are the BEST. Definitely the highlight of the meal– we got two, one Crepe Suzette because I wanted to show Bryan something quintessentially French, and a Cerise…something. It was super good. Both were good, but Bryan enjoyed the Crepes more due to the alcohol. I liked the Cerise thing cause I have a sweet tooth.

The Crepe Suzette is a normal crepe, pretty much. Doused in alcohol and set alight.

20131223-013627.jpg

The Cherry thing (Cerises…something) was a goblet with iduno… Some pudding with cherries that have been drowned in alcohol with ice cream and chocolate fudge. So gooooooood. Drools. The cherries tasted amazing. I expected sour but they were so sweet.

The picture doesn’t do it enough justice… It was so gooood. Anyway, that’s all for now, soz for the photo edit inconsistency, I took some with pudding cam and some with normal iPhone cam.

Camping in the Summer

Posted on 18-12-2013 | Tags: , , , ,

Surprisingly my Summer has been pretty busy… I find that I always have something to do, and when I think that I have nothing to do it turns out I’ve forgotten something and make a huge mess of things.  I wish I were more naturally organised.  I plan and plan but theres always an issue lol.

So after Korea we had no budget for another trip, so we went with the cheapest option we could think of- camping!  Last weekend my friends and I went camping at Cape Paterson, sort of near Inveloch.  Tbh when I suggested camping I actually meant roughing it out in the bush with only a crappy “toilet” and no showers LOL.  I know it sounds gross but I actually kind of enjoy the feeling of camping ’cause it’s just so chill and stuff.  But the trip was so much better than I expected!  I would even say I enjoyed it more than our 2nd trip to Rosebud, hahaha.

The camping site was really, really nice.  Not what I was expecting at all.  I was just imagining the horrible toilets which are basically holes in the ground with a toilet structure plonked on top- but it was totally not.  All the facilities were so clean and nice!  The showers actually had hot water, the toilets were flushable and the whole bathroom area was cleaned daily.  There was a camp kitchen, with 2 fridges and a microwave + other appliances (but we still brought our own bc the kitchen…while it was usable, you can never be sure..) and a bbq area.  Not only that but the sites were powered, so there were no issues with charging phones and having light, and the lots were large enough to fit both our tent and car~  The price was very reasonable, about $30pp for 2 nights.  Considering we usually have to pay like $50 a night for a rental house… plus bond, it was really a great saving.  The fact that our stay didn’t fall into peak season was really good, because the camp was close to empty

Just a short walk from the camp- literally just behind the camping site, is the beach.  The beach is beautiful!  Really clean and there were heaps of rocks to explore around and it even had a patrolled area so you know that it’s okay to swim LOL unlike Rosebud where we were just sort of around the beach near the drain… omg.

So Bryan and I left his house first, because Michael Pua told us the night before that he couldn’t drive there early with us because of work.  Basically, our plan was to have Bryan drive me, Pua to drive Mikey and David to drive everyone else because he’s the only one with Green P’s and a car.  Pua dropped the tents off to us the night before and we drove off.  I think it was the first time Bryan had driven so far, but luckily it was a very quiet and straight road trip.  About 10 mins before we arrived, we got extremely hungry so we stopped by Maccas for lunch.  I had a Grand Angus burger and half an apple pie which we shared.  Afterwards, we arrived at the site, checked-in and grabbed the keys to the entry gate.  We didn’t explore because the sky was kind of dreary… so we started to pitch Nelson’s huge tent.

Bryan and I were deciding which to put up, but we figured that Nelson’s tent was packed neatly in the black bag (since we didn’t get it from Nelson/David themselves, we got confused as to which bags went with which tent- we thought David’s tent was half in a plastic bag).  And, his tent had “instructions”, so we went with it.

Turns out it was the most difficult tent to put up.  Took us like… 4 hours to put it up BUT seeing as it was just the two of us, the fact we even got it up before everyone arrived is a feat in itself LOL.  We were really confused…we tried to follow the instructions but it didn’t make sense.. the pictures didn’t match up.  So we ended up doing what we “thought” they meant, spending like 3 hours putting it up that way… but turns out a part of Nelsons tent was inside the plastic bag which we thought was David’s tent.  Finally we worked it out and put up the tent.  It was particularly confusing because Bryan and I are used to smaller tents.  This huge tent had a really unique structure… you have to build the outer “shell” then hook up the inner shell afterwards, which was weird.  But in the end it looked really good and the tent was super nice!

Finally, everyone arrived and we were fairly hungry from all the energy we used putting up the tent.  Luckily they brought food!!  :D  There was heaps of food- more than I thought there would be.  They bought KFC, and Calene + her mum made heaps of dishes, Nelson brought “chinese japchae” that his mum made, Jess brought sandwiches.  So much food, yumm.  But unfortunately, before we could eat it we had to put up the 2nd tent.  It took like 5 seconds LOL.  Bryan and I cri everytim.  Oh well, it’s better that we didn’t waste time putting up tents while everyone was together anyway.  We unpacked everything into the tents and ate outside on picnic rugs.  The only bad thing about the camp is the fact you can have open flames, which means no bonfire But I guess it’s a worthwhile price to pay for nice facilities and electricity.

After we ate, we walked down to the beach.  Too cold to go into the water or anything, but we explored a tiny bit and watched the sunset.  It was really nice and relaxing after the tiring day.  At night we stayed up late playing Mafia and chatting.  I suck so much at Mafia cause Im terrible at lying omg.  But somehow I managed to trick Pulu HAHahah.  Bryan and I were the “murderers” in the game, but no one knew.  Jess and David were trying to convince me of some reason why Bryan was the “murderer”.  David was also like “if you vote for him, you’ll win.” and that scared me cause it looked like he was lying… like he knew it was me or something and his “convincing” me was just a ploy to get rid of Bryan so that they could aim me next round.  So I didn’t want to get rid of Bryan.

I suck at Mafia so I played dumb.  Actually, I could see what they were trying to get at, but it was slightly confusing… so rather than try to comprehend what they were talking about, I blanked my mind out whenever Jess spoke so that I could convincingly not understand.  LOL it must have worked because they didn’t seem to suspect me until later… it probably helped that I also have the excuse that I don’t want to vote out my own bf hahaha.  IDK WHY people always blame me when its not me and when it is… wat.  Anyway in the end Pulu listened to confused me and voted for Jess because her method of playing is to be super sure and convince ppl.  I think Pulu was just like wtf so he looked to me who looked as confused as he was.  I don’t actually like playing Mafia that much… LOL well maybe not “dislike” but I think I’m weird cos I find it really ~stressful~ having to lie.  I mean, it’s definitely fun.  But I hate being anything other than citizen.  I’d rather just watch everyone else play.  I suppose I’m just like that… I don’t like Cheat, and even in Dota I hate “pubbing” because it’s too stressful having the team rely on me.  Idk when I’m doing something “for fun” I like it to be stress-free and no one is relying on me to do anything etc.  At least Mafia is just within friends though, I guess.  Don’t know how I will continue my stress-free life in the real world.

Anyway, we ended up all sleeping in the giant tent because it was scary to go into the other tent… also the other tent didn’t have power cause we didn’t have an extension cord.  The girls basically just used that tent as a changing room in the end.  I’ll try to post about Day 2 tmr.

20th Birthday

Posted on 22-10-2013

It was my birthday last week.

On Sunday I planned a small dinner with the Korean friends at Gami Chicken.  It was tasty, and those girls are so sweet even though I haven’t known them for very long.  They gave me a mirror sticker (which I placed on my phone case), a perfume and a pair of cute white flats.  Thanks guys!

Uni in the morning, then Bryan took me out to eat at a Korean restaurant, since he just got his P’s!  Yay, I am so proud of him. :D  We also drove to Chaddy to look for some new shoes for me, but I didn’t end up getting any because I have a very specific set of conditions for them: black, genuine leather, comfortable inside, ideally with a platform at the front but it can’t be a platform all the way around.  I envision a pair of perfect classic black pumps that I can wear even casually.  LOL.  This is why I haven’t bought them yet.

Anyway, lastly he drove us to my house and we had a small dinner with my family.  Bryan’s parents gave me a Revlon gift pack, which was very nice of them.

On the next weekend, I had a small party at my house.  I feel really bad that I couldn’t invite everyone I wanted to, but my house is tiny and I already felt horrible about needing my mum to help me with the cooking and stuff.  If I had a mansion I’d invite everyone, but I don’t and money is quite a problem for me at the moment actually… Hope everyone can understand.

I wore a hi-lo/asymmetrical dress I got from Korea, with a pretty map pattern on the front.  I was super proud of my makeup (which I did too early) but then by the time the party started my skin had an allergic reaction and went bumpy and imperfect I crai every time.  I even cut my fringe straight again, 5 minutes before the guests began to arrive ’cause had to cover up the allergyyy. Oh well here’s a picture from when it was good but my lipstick came off:

IMG_2510
I recorded it but I’ll have to edit it and see whether it’s any good.

We had a bbq outside; actually we precooked the meat during the day to give it a smoky flavour.  As usual my mum went overboard with all the food- but I’m glad I get to eat yummy leftovers for the next few days.  We played a charades kind of game which was actually really fun.  Stolen from Running Man or something (AND they did it on Shinhwa Broadcast too, so double points)- it’s like Chinese whispers but you act it out.  I’m really bad at it… srsly.. I think I ruined most of the acting LMAO I accidentally did something that looked dodgy as as well but I don’t know if anyone realised it looked like that, or do I just have a filthy mind HAhaha.  BUT I did guess one of them correctly, yay.

When it was time for cake, my mum bought these sparkler candles in the shape of a “20” which was pretty cool.  I’m really grateful for everything she did for me even though the hours before dinner were stressful as heck.

Then it was present time.  Bryan’s parents gave me yet another gift- a Cherry Blossom Body Shop pack.  Srsly wuut I am so spoiled by them, they’re so niceeee.  Ide know how they knew cherry blossom was my favourite flavour but I guess most people like that flavour anyway haha.  Calene made me a cute toy keyring thing and wrote me a letter like we did back in the dayz in high school.  I still find it so funny that we became bffls after I even mentioned something of the sort in a letter when we used to exchange them.  Love you Caleneee ^__^

Finally, I got trolled by Bryan.  I knew he had planned a collaborative present with my other friends, but he tricked me into thinking they got me a “custom” board game for my birthday or something.  Nekminut it’s an ipad mini in a Taboo box LOL.  Even my mum said I was gullible.  Hahahah.  Thanks so much guys, I love it!

After presents Bryan showed us this video he prepared, with my friends saying happy birthday to me and stuff.  I was really touched :’)  Dat effort he put in to even get everyone to do it, and then he even did Shinhwa‘s Venus dance at the end for me ^_________^  I teared up LOL stupid tear ducts never do what I want.  Pua even recorded his part like 5 times to get it right wat a qt HAHAha I luv you guys all so much.

After everything ended, Calene slept over and we talked and watched random stuff, incl. John Tucker Must Die which was such a LAME movie, but it was okay.  Typical chick flick and no depth but whatever.  Then WGM in the morning, yay.

I had a really great birthday, thanks everyone :3
